Getting Chartered as a Club Sport
To be recognized as a Club Sport at UNM, an organization must first complete the full chartering process through the Student Activities Center (SAC). Chartering is required annually and is completed each fall semester. Clubs are encouraged to complete the SAC and Club Sports chartering processes concurrently; however, final approval as a Club Sport cannot be granted until all SAC chartering requirements have been successfully fulfilled. Both new and returning organizations seeking recognition as a Club Sport will follow the same process outlined below.
Club Sport vs Recreational Club
Club Sports are competitive teams, affiliated with a national collegiate competitive league or governing body. They are designed to provide students with opportunities for athletic participation outside of the NCAA structure. Teams must be competitive and regularly compete against other colleges and universities within their respective conferences.
Recreational Clubs provide opportunities for organized non-competitive athletic participation in a structured environment. While the primary focus is recreational, some clubs may engage in games or informal competition with other organizations or clubs.
- Because Recreational Clubs are not affiliated with a national collegiate league or governing body, they do not complete the Club Sports chartering process and are subject only to SAC's chartering process.
